Soham Grammarians - Who made the Book of Remembrance Case?

 

22 Mar 09: Julian Bishop 47 writes: Many thanks for sending the image of the WW2 memorial case. I may have had a hand in the making of it, probably in 1951 or 1952 - I do remember the gates being erected. However I cannot claim the credit for it. The mortice and tenon joints look too well fitted to have been my work. Even the signature does not look like my hand. It is certainly the sort of project that Mr Tabraham would have entrusted to his 4th or 5th year pupils. Oddly, the simple triangle patterns on the sides did jog my mind, as I instantly imagined the careful chisel work required to form them. A more likely person to have been involved would have been Brian Denley who I remember as a gifted cabinet maker. On the underside of the case is the name J Bishop:
