Soham Grammarians: First day 1942

My sweet shop home was next door to the High School in Ely. On my very first day at Soham one Tony Lavender, as I later discovered, took my new school cap onto the bus. I stayed behind searching for it with a friend who was kind enough to help, but we both missed the bus home.

We walked and got as far as just before the low bridge at Ely Station, to be met by my mother who was pedalling furiously towards Soham looking for me!  She could not have set off sooner as our sweet shop could not be left unattended. Happy days!
